Reading makes you a more interesting person...so READ!!!!
Here are some individual titles that I have enjoyed. Choose one and enjoy some great reading!
Playing with the Boys by Liz Tigelaar. Lucy Malone is the new girl in town. Her mother has died and her father has packed them up and moved to California. She's starting a new school and she really wants some friends. She decides to try out for the soccer team...and feels she has a good shot, but then she doesn't make the team. But, as they say, "when one door closes, another one opens"...the soccer coach wants Lucy to try out as the kicker for the football team! The football team???? You've got to be kidding. Give this book a whirl...it was a good read!
Things Change by Patrick Jones. Johanna feels that her parents expect her to be perfect...and that is just way too hard. She does the best she can, but when she meets Paul she is determined to keep him in her life...no matter what her parents say. Paul is great as long as he's happy, but keeping him happy turns out to be almost more than Johanna can handle. However, she finds that she had better keep him happy... or else. Things change...and then, some things don't.
Nobody's Princess by Esther Friesner. Helen of Sparta...beautiful, future queen of Sparta, and a girl who wants more out of life than just a husband! This is historical fiction picturing what life for Helen might have been like in her formative years. Adventure should have been her middle name from the tales in this book. You're in for a treat with this novel.
Broken Moon by Kim Antieau. Nadira is 18 years old and lives in Pakistan. She is already considered "spoiled goods". Her brother supposedly committed a serious crime and yet Nadira was the one who received the punishment. How fair is that? Nadira seems to have lost all hope for a good life, but she does love her little brother, Umar. When Umar is kidnapped to race camels in the desert, Nadira risks her life to find him.
Chanda's Secrets by Allan Stratton. This is the story of Chanda, a teenager in southern Africa, who is caught in the HIV/AIDS pandemic. She is a girl of remarkable strength and courage who battles the harshness and the fearful silence that people in her area have toward HIV/AIDS victims. This is such a realistic look into the treatment of HIV/AIDS people in many areas of Africa. There is a sequel to this book called Chanda's Wars.
Twight by Stephanie Meyer. Oh, I am so loving this series!!!! This first book introduces us to Bella, a human, and Edward, a vampire. This is the Buffy and Angel romance all over again! There is horror, anger, tenderness, danger, and there is romantic love...everything all rolled together. It is a page turner. I also read the second book in the series, New Moon. It was fantastic, too! I am now reading the third in the series, Eclipse. And, I have the final book that just came out, Breaking Dawn. You're going to be crazy about these!
The Battle of Jericho by Sharon Draper. I have never read a Sharon Draper book that I didn't like...and this was no exception. This book was awesome! It's one of the best I've read lately. I had to read a while and put it down a while because I knew something awful was going to happen and I just had to give myself time to prepare. How far are we willing to go to become a member of that group, club, sorority/fraternity, even gang? How far are we willing to lower ourselves? I also read the sequel to this book and loved it, too...November Blues.
