2009 Summer Reading Program
No Book Left Unread
No Book Left Unread
Batesburg-Leesville High School is joining forces with schools in 54 South Carolina districts and the library media consultant for the state, Martha Alewine, in the No Book Left Unread Summer Reading Program. Students will choose any book(s) or other reading materials that they want to read, and each one will keep a reading log that is signed by the parents and returned to the student’s English teacher the first day of school. The reading logs are tallied, the highest numbers are reported on the final report form, and they are sent to Martha Alewine. Reader Leader Schools and Reader Leader Students will be announced September 22, 2009. These schools and students will receive letters of commendations and rewards; all participating schools will receive a Certificate of Participation and a Letter of Recognition to Superintendent Dr. James H. Rex.
In addition to the reading log, BLHS teachers are making the assignment of a reader’s response journal to one novel of the student’s choice. For the response journal assignment, honor students must read one novel of at least 300 pages, CP and regular level students must read one of at least 150 pages. The reading log forms, the readers’ response journal requirements, and suggested book lists published by the South Carolina Department of Education are located in the BLHS Media Center, the BLMS Media Center, and BLHS English teachers’ classrooms.
The No Book Left Unread summer reading challenge is sponsored by Follett Library resources, The Reading Warehouse, The South Carolina Association of School Librarians, and The South Carolina Department of Education. Let’s leave no book unread and make BLHS the top Reader Leader School in South Carolina!
